Invention:
This invention is a biological information pattern (BIP) array to encode digital information into a biomolecular medium, like DNA, to store a high density of data. It also includes a label-free readout system to retrieve said information.
Background:
With a growing need for a tremendous amount of data storage there is a new demand for the use of synthetic nucleic acid, such as DNA and RNA, which has the capability of storing an excessive capacity of data in a small space. However, the storage of information on nucleic acid is rendered useless without a means to first store data in the nucleic acid and then extract the data through a readout system. This technology provides an easy-to-use and inexpensive method for storing and reading DNA without the use of expensive sequencing machines.
