Invention:
UArizona researchers have developed a new split-firefly luciferase enzyme method for measuring protein-protein interactions for assays or sensors. This new method may, when combined with previous split luciferase methods, enable assays for two different protein interactions simultaneously, as well as provide a means for additional biophysical characterization. The method also has improved signal-to-background ratios.
Background:
Protein-protein interactions (PPls) are literally the glue that holds life together. Strategies to monitor PPIs in cells allows for biophysical characterization while providing assays for developing inhibitors. This research more efficiently manages to do both of the prior criteria.
Applications:
- Monitoring protein interactions
Advantages:
- Very sensitive method
- Less time intensive
- Identify additional protein information
