Invention:
The iDance-Cog App is an AI-enabled, motion-capture dance and body percussion game designed to help older adults stay mentally active, physically engaged, and socially connected through an accessible at-home movement program. The app turns cognitive and physical exercise into an interactive game that can adjust to a user’s skill level and provide feedback during use. By combining AI, motion-capture technology, and evidence-based dance-for-health activities, the app supports an individualized experience for users who may benefit from memory, coordination, attention, reaction-time, and mood-based activities. The technology is mainly intended for older adults, including those at risk for dementia or experiencing mild cognitive impairment, but it may also be used by healthy adults and children interested in cognitive and movement-based training.
Background:
Older adults at risk for dementia or experiencing mild cognitive impairment often need accessible ways to support cognitive health, physical activity, and social engagement. Many existing tools for cognitive or physical training can feel repetitive, clinical, expensive, or difficult to use consistently at home. Current app-based health platforms, such as physical therapy apps, show that remote movement-based programs can be useful, but they may not fully address combined cognitive, physical, and social needs. iDance-Cog was developed to make cognitive and physical exercise more engaging by using dance, body percussion, motion capture, and AI-based adjustment within a game-like format. Unlike general physical therapy or wellness apps, iDance-Cog is focused on movement-based cognitive health activities and can respond to user performance by adjusting the experience to the player’s needs. This may support better engagement, broader accessibility, and lower-cost delivery compared with in-person or clinic-based programs.
