Invention:
Researchers at the University of Arizona have developed white light polarization-grating-based imaging polarimeters and associated methods. These "snapshot" imaging polarimeters operate over broad wavelength ranges, including thermal infrared and visible wavelengths. The polarization gratings produce a shear between first and second polarization components of received radiation flux.
Advantages:
- Higher signal-to-noise ratio and contrast
- Able to operate in LWIR and visible
- Snapshot capability eliminates registration problems
Applications:
- Remote sensing
- Inspection
