Voltage-Controlled Magnetic Devices

Case ID:
UA15-061
Invention:

This technology enables nonvolatile, reversible control of magnetic anisotropy through voltage induced reversible oxidation. Non-exclusive licenses are available to the resulting US Patent 9,779,865.

Background:

Using magnetic fields and spin-polarized currents have proven inefficient methods to control the magnetic properties of solids. This invention of voltage induced control provides a more energy efficient approach.

Application:

  • Broad scope, with potential for advances the in the fields of:
    • Magnetic random access memory (MRAM)
    • Organic spintronics
    • Quantum computing

Advantages:

  • This invention claims to display enhanced performance in area, such as:
    • Increases anisotropy change
    • Reversible magnetism control
    • Nonvolatile magnetism control
