User-Space Emulation Framework for Domain-Specific Soc Design

Case ID:
UA21-219
Invention:

This technology uses Linux-based emulation framework to provide an ecosystem for hardware-software co-design of Domain-specific SoCs (DSSoCs) and enable their rapid evaluation during the pre-silicon design phase.

Background:
As technology scaling becomes a challenge, System-on-chip architects are exploring DSSoCs to effectively balance performance and flexibility. DSSoC architectures are characterized by a heterogeneous collection of general-purpose cores and programmable accelerators tailored to a particular application domain. The heterogeneity of systems-on-chips makes it very difficult to achieve maximum performance  with minimal latency and energy consumption. The technology provides a framework to maximize the capabilities of systems-on-chips.

Applications:

  • Automatic application mapping
  • System-on-Chip architecture

Advantages:

  • Maximize performance
  • Pre-silicon design phase
