Invention:
TrustFlow is a technology that enhances the security of systems based on the RISC-V architecture by protecting the integrity of sensitive data in memory.
Background:
Embedded systems and the Internet of Things are becoming more and more commonplace. As these devices become ubiquitous and applied to more critical applications such as medical uses and autonomous transportation, the need for security is paramount.
First introduced in 2010, RISC-V is an open-sourced architecture for designing processors, with immense growth potential due to its capacity to be used by smaller companies that would otherwise have to purchase licenses or processors from the dominant semiconductor companies. But as a fairly new technology, there is still room to improve on the security of RISC-V solutions, especially in embedded applications.
This technology takes advantage of this opportunity by extending the RISC-V architecture in a manner that provides protection for sensitive data in memory while avoiding the addition of significant processing overhead that other state-of-the art solutions incur.
Applications:
- Internet of Things
- Defense
- Smart cars
- Industrial applications
