Invention:

University of Arizona researchers have invented a modular cultivation system that is designed to be used in a vertical farm or plant factory. The box has an expandable and collapsible support frame and growing pods, which contribute to a unique end product. It is amenable to automation and remote control. This product can be used in a warehouse or greenhouse type of vertical farm/plant factory. The dimensions of the product can be adjusted to fit the entire available volume of space being used.

Background:

As urban populations continue to increase and more people become interested in healthy produce, the need for efficient and plentiful farming is in high demand. Vertical farming systems can solve this issue, especially this one due to its unique features including stowability and being equipped with its own hydroponic unit and lighting board.

Applications:

  • Vertical Farming
  • Food production
  • Hydroponics
  • Commercial or greenhouse potential

Advantages:

  • Saves space with flexibility as a vertical modular farm
  • Storable
  • Portable
  • Can maximize the quantity of crops grown per unit time
  • Equipped with its own hydroponic unit and lighting board
