Invention:
This invention incorporates the reaction of tetrazine and alkene/alkyne substituted polysiloxanes through the foaming process to develop a product similar to polyurethane foam. This new solution is much less toxic than polyurethane, and has the flexibility of rubber but with added strength due to a silicon-oxide network.
Background:
Polyurethane foam is extremely diverse in its use, but the drawbacks are very well documented and are detrimental to the environment and consumers. The presented tetrazine solution provides the same uses as its competitor, but is much safer for all users. Going forward, this solution can change the way people think about the foaming market if adopted.
Applications:
- Furniture and mattress manufacturing
- Automobile seating
- Home insulation
Advantages:
- Non-toxic
- Novel approach
- Low-cost
Status: issued U.S. patent #11,352,475
