Reconfigurable Polarization Imaging System

Case ID:
UA20-017
Invention:

This technology is a reconfigurable snapshot polarimetric imaging method for the color camera. The method measures polarization properties with spectral-polarization filters. This method has the ability to collect circular or elliptical polarization information.

Background:
Polarization imaging is described as the ability to describe light through reflecting objects. Currently, there are a few common methods that are being used. First, is the division of time which grants users with a high spatial resolution but the temporal resolution is not as strong. Then there is the division of amplitude and the division of aperture which are commonly used to collect images. Lastly, there is the development of the snapshot polarization imaging technique where users are unable to measure circular or elliptical information.

This technology offers consumers the ability to collect different types of information while maintaining a high spatial resolution and enhanced reconfigurability.

Applications:

  • Optical imaging
  • Color camera polarization
  • Polarimetric imaging

Advantages:

  • Simple
  • High spatial resolution
  • Unique reconfigurability
  • Low-cost
