Precision Brachytherapy Device for Esophageal Cancer

Invention:

This invention is a novel brachytherapy multiple radiation seed delivery device. The device was developed to deliver an ablative dose of radiation to the cancerous tissue while sparing the normal tissue for patients with esophageal cancer. 

Background:
Brachytherapy is a form of radiation therapy in which small radioactive seeds are placed near cancerous tissue to minimize damage to healthy surrounding tissue. Brachytherapy is used primarily 
in prostate, cervical, breast, skin, and esophageal cancer. The purpose of this invention is the application to esophageal cancer. Esophageal cancer is the seventh most common cancer worldwide and half of the candidates are not surgical candidates.​​​​​​​
