PowerDown (tm) Electric Value Indicator

Case ID:
UA18-159
Invention:

PowerDown is a unique means of providing electrical power grid information to the consumer to increase overall energy efficiency. This information will be relayed to the consumer through a simple LED system to inform them of current usage rates in a simple and easily understandable means. This helps to empower the consumer to become more involved in their energy consumption habits by receiving real-time information.

Background:
Most consumers are not aware of their energy usage until receiving an electric power consumption bill. While most innovations in this industry are focused on renewable power resources, there is a lack of innovation in technologies that help consumers understand their energy use in real-time. PowerDown is capable of being enabled in every smart home, allowing the consumer to be engaged in the energy management process. Unlike many other smart meters in the industry, PowerDown allows for real-time information to be relayed in a simple manner through LED lights. Consumers can then preemptively plan their energy consumption habits before receiving their excessive electric bill.

Applications:

  • Smart home energy management integration

Advantages:

  • Provides real-time energy operating cost information
  • Simple to use and easy to understand
  • Reduces costs
  • Potentially compatible with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for increased integration
