Optimized Regular and Irregular SD-LDPC Codes for 50G-PON and Beyond

Case ID:
UA24-105
Invention:

This technology is a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code optimization for optical transmission (fiber) taking into consideration known burst mode errors. By using parity-check matrix rearrangement and different intra-codeword interleaving, the inventors demonstrated that both regular and irregular LDPC codes' performance can be improved under burst mode errors by using the proper optimization.

Background:
Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are widely used as a forward error correction solution (FEC) in optical transmission systems to provide the error correction performance close to the channel capacity. These standards are needed to support application and services including high-definition video streaming services, virtual reality, mixed reality, online video meetings, cloud storage and computing, and more. This technology supports LDPC code optimization to support for 50-Gb/s up stream signals.

Applications:

  • Data and networking
  • Telecommunications
  • Aerospace and defense
  • Banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI)

Advantages:

  • Greater optimized efficiency
  • Improved performance
  • Reduced latency
  • Reduced buffering
