New PCR and qPCR Methods For NHP Detection

Invention:

This technology provides a more accurate test for detecting necrotizing hepatopancreatitis (NHP) bacteria (NHPB) in farmed shrimp. The development of these highly specific PCR and qPCR methods for detecting NHPB eliminate false positives and non-specific amplifications seen in current detection methods.

 

Background:
The worldwide shrimp farming industry has experienced rapid growth in the past 20 years. However, this rapid expansion has been accompanied by devastating viral and bacterial disease outbreaks that have resulted in high mortality rates of shrimp and economic loss to farmers. This invention provides an early intervention method that allows farmers to accurately assess the presence of NHPB and prevent the loss of shrimp.

  • Aquaculture farms in the Western hemisphere, with potential to be used worldwide
