Layout based Grafting Resource Optimizer

Case ID:
UA18-160
Invention:

This invention is software that optimizes a factory floor (layout, flow, WIP, etc.) and the number of employees to maximize efficiency of specific factory operations. This system can find the optimum layout design and resource allocation for any agricultural growing facility, although it can be modified for use in facilities in other industries. Not only is this system capable of finding the optimal layout design for such facilities, but it can also find the optimal resource allocation considering the restrictions caused by this layout.

Background:
Resource allocation and layout design are critical decisions in designing/operating grafting nurseries but their concurrent optimization is challenging due to the dynamics of workers' performance, resource availability, and demands. In addition, the negative impact of an efficient layout on workers' performance substantially reduces the productivity in such facilities. Although layout design and resource allocation have both been studied in depth, this invention focuses on integrating the layout design and resource allocation problems and considers their correlation when finding the optimal design and allocation.

Applications:

  • Horticulture
  • Planning design
  • Manufacturing
  • Aquaculture
  • Healthcare

Advantages:

  • Provides optimal resource allocation and layout design
  • Increases efficiency
  • Minimizes costs
  • Improves accuracy
