Invention:
This Family Consultation (FAMCOM) for Prediabetes Program is a health behavior change program for use with adult couples in which at least one member is prediabetic. FAMCOM is an evidenced-based treatment that is effective in modifying a range of health behaviors and has been adapted for prediabetes. The program uses systemic perspective to target couple-level interaction patters to promote increased physical activity and healthier eating.
Background:
Health behaviors occur in a social context, and to affect long-term, sustainable health behavior change, behavior interventions must attend to not only to interpersonal interactions, but the larger social milieu in which these social processes unfold.
