Invention:
This invention is the use of dihydrotetrazines as antioxidants to eliminate free radicals. Dihydrotetrazines were found to be superior to dihydropyridazines or hindered phenols in inhibiting free radical polymerization.
Background:
Dihydrotetrazines donate up to two hydrogen atoms to terminate radical chain or oxidation reactions. These compounds can be prepared in the synthesis of tetrazines or by hydrogenation or reduction reactions.
Applications:
- Plastics/rubber
- Food
- Cosmetics
- Pharmaceuticals
- Fuel
Advantages:
- Can serve as an alternative antioxidant agent
- Increases efficacy
Status: issued U.S. patent #10,633,517
