Invention:
This invention is the use of dihydropyridazines as antioxidants to remove free radicals, prevent degradation of peroxides, block ultraviolet light, and limit ionizing radiation. 1,4-dihydropyridazines with any number of substituents at the 3, 6- positions or 4,5- positions can generate a variety of antioxidants.
Background:
The main reason for the failure of elastomers, thermoplastics, and thermosets are related to polymer degradation from oxidation. Antioxidants can delay this failure and the main focal point of innovation. There is an opportunity and need to increase the time a polymer can survive oxidative degradation and reduce potential health and environmental issues.
Applications:
- Plastics/rubber industry
- Food industry
- Cosmetics
- Pharmaceuticals
- Fuel industry
Advantages:
- Reduces solubility limitation
- Limits concern of higher concentrations resulting in adverse effects
- Extended protection and potential recycling of antioxidant use
- Can delay oxidation ten times longer than an equivalent amount of BHT
