This is a diagnostic index and questionnaire that assesses the degree to which an individual perceives control over their bedtime, wake time, sleep duration, and sleep quality.

Background:
Control over time to bed, time awake, sleep duration, and sleep quality are all related to sleep outcomes and assessment of these constructs may be useful for future sleep interventions. Modern societies are now facing challenges in achieving adequate sleep and experiencing a variety of sleep disturbances. This technology allows a health care professional to determine various aspects of a person’s sleep patterns and quality of sleep which would enhance the determination of appropriate treatment. This could be very useful for sleep research purposes.

Of a total population of 325 million Americans, 58% are estimated to experience insomnia symptoms or sleep disorders. As obesity rates climb and Americans age, more people are developing sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and other sleep disorders. Investigations and questionnaires do not always reveal the exact nature of the disorder and cannot simply replace a thorough clinical evaluation.
