3D Printing Using Tholins or Other Extraterrestrial Polymers

This technology will utilize non-earthbound resources as a polymer for use in 3D printing materials. This technology utilizes a polymer derived from Tholins.

 

Background:

It is costly and impractical to transport large amounts of material for construction and repair during space exploration and travel. 3D printing utilizing materials found in space has the potential to reduce this transportation need. Another problem is the reliance on finite, earthbound resources for 3D printing materials. This new invention will allow 3D printing system to utilize extraterrestrial resources including those that can be recreated in a lab setting.
