Circularly-Symmetric Companding Quantization-Inspired Hybrid Constellation Shaping for APSK Modulation to Improve Power Efficiency

Case ID:
UA21-068
Invention:

This technology is an improved amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) with better constellation power efficiency in Gaussian-noise-limited channel. The improved power efficiency makes it suitable for applications in power-limited communications such as fiber-optic communications, satellite communications, power-line communications, and MIMO communications.

Background:
One of the main challenges for the future of information and communication technologies is the reduction of the power consumption in telecommunication networks. Given this technology, the transmitted signal power can be reduced by a third, enabling lower power consumption. The lower power consumption allows for broader applications of communication technology.

Applications:

  • Communications
    • Fiber optic
    • Power line
    • Satellite

Advantages:

  • Lower power consumption
