Invention:
Medication Education, Decision Support, Reminding and Monitoring System - Memory (MEDSReM-M) is an interactive application designed to help older adults manage their medications more effectively and support adherence. It builds on an existing theory-based mobile health system, adapting it to create a user-friendly tool for those who need extra support remembering to take their medications as prescribed. The app aids people with memory issues, such as mild cognitive impairment, by simplifying the medication management process and integrating features that enhance memory and adherence. Developed with feedback from users and their caregivers, MEDSReM-M aims to reduce the burden of self-management, improve adherence to medication schedules, and ultimately support better health outcomes. The app is currently being tested in a study to evaluate its impact on medication adherence, blood pressure control, and overall quality of life for its users.
Background:
MEDSReM-M addresses the challenge of medication adherence among older adults, particularly those with cognitive impairments. People with chronic conditions often struggle to remember and adhere to their medication schedules, which is crucial for managing their health and preventing further cognitive and physical decline. Current solutions typically involve manual pill organizers, medication reminders, and general health apps, but these tools may not be tailored to the specific needs of individuals with memory issues or cognitive decline. MEDSReM-M distinguishes itself by focusing on prospective memory tasks and is specifically designed to address the cognitive challenges faced by users through a simplified approach. This user-centered design aims to enhance medication adherence more effectively than general tools by incorporating features that directly support memory and cognitive function. Additionally, MEDSReM-M is being rigorously tested and optimized through user feedback and clinical trials, addressing the limitations of less specialized or less tested alternatives.
