Invention:
This technology is a software that is able to calculate the distance between joints among the carpal bones using 3D imaging, such as CT scan or MRI. Traditional joint space distance is calculated in a single joint for example the knee in 2D or 3D. The wrist has 8 carpal bones and forms many joints, and it is novel to quantify the joint space among these joints.
Background:
According to the CDC, 58.5 million US adults (1 in 4 individuals) suffer from arthritis and oftentimes limits their ability to work. However, through the use of this software, the ability to properly diagnose disorders of wrist soft tissues or bony deformation will be greatly increased. A technology like this is also novel to its industry due to typically only the traditional joint spaces being calculated, as opposed to quantifying the distances between the carpal region joints of the body. This software will also help in identifying where joint interconnected abnormalities lie and how they are affecting the other carpal joints.
Applications:
- To measure distance between carpal joints
Advantages:
- Can identify a variety of disorders relating to soft wrist tissue
- Can identify a variety of disorders relating to bony deformation
- Can be used in synthesis with different imaging tool, such as:
