Combinations for the Treatment of Neurodegeneration

Case ID:
UA22-016
Invention:

Researchers at the University of Arizona have researched new formulations and combinations of compounds for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Developing a novel computational system allowed the inventors to identify several therapeutic targets of single cell type and whole bulk tissue that contribute to Alzheimer's disease. These therapeutic targets could be used individually or in combination with other drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s.

Background:
At least 50 million people are living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia disorders. Hardly any drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s have been FDA approved in the last twenty years. This market is extremely hard to enter with high cost of current drugs and expensive clinical trials and development. Current treatments and therapeutics are limited and this market has always been in need of more treatment options and competition.

This research has the possibility to discover multiple new formulations and compounds for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, this approach has the potential to be cheaper and more effective than current options that were developed decades ago.

Applications:

  • Alzheimer’s therapeutic agent

Advantages:

  • Potentially more effective
  • Potentially more cost effective
