Invention:
This is a survey that is to be used as an assessment tool to measure various human attitudes toward animals. This is the first survey of its kind to measure a broad spectrum of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors towards nonhuman animals. This tool will be used to assess career aptitude for individuals intending to pursue a career involving animal interactions.
Background:
There is a high cost associated with choosing a career path or field of study that is not well suited for an individual’s skills or interests. The average student loan debt associated with graduate school is over $70,000 and the average cost just associated with the hiring process for most employers is over $1,000. Therefore, it is important for both the individual pursuing a certain career path or field of study and for an employer hiring an individual to be certain that the individual is well-suited for their chosen field. Career aptitude tests are widely used as an assessment tool for individuals who want to reassure that their skills and interests are right for a career before pursuing that career. There are currently many career aptitude tests available; however, these do not offer specific and detailed assessments for any one field.
The Animality assessment tool is aimed at individuals, employers, and admissions offices directly associated with careers that involve human-animal interactions. This survey can give detailed information about qualities the survey-taker has that would or would not lend to a meaningful and/or successful career in animal allied industries. This is more specific and detailed than other similar surveys and is likely to lead to greater personal and career satisfaction for those pursuing animal-related careers.
Applications:
- Individual use to determine career aptitude
- Admissions office use to determine potential successful students in application pool
- Employer use to determine successful candidates for hiring
Advantages:
- Specific for animal-related careers
- More detailed than other similar surveys
- Can lead to greater career satisfaction
