Applied Resuscitation Education & Specialized Training (AREST)

Case ID:
UA21-087
Invention:

Our researchers have created a training outline called: Applied Resuscitation Education & Specialized Training (AREST) programs, which have been designed to teach first responders how to care for patients with life- threatening medical problems. This innovative approach differentiates AREST from traditional programs by offering both online and in-person modalities and cost-effective pricing.

Background:

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, more commonly known as CPR, is a life-saving technique that helps maintain blood flow to the brain and heart in an emergency situation. In Western-developed countries, the probability of survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is only 6-10%.

This AREST software is designed to effectively teach resuscitation education and other lifesaving medical care information to groups with different levels of medical training.
This online learning module software will require in-person skills/training testing to receive accreditation. Studies have shown that online instruction alone can lead to overestimation of chest compression, indicating the benefit of in-person evaluation.

Applications:

  • Teaching CPR online
  • Teaching specialized life saving skills online

Advantages:

  • Accredited
  • Cost-effective
  • Flexible
  • Online/In-person modalities
  • Contact hours reduced
  • Certification
  • Training specific to working environment
