The Mobile Vertical Farm (Go-Vertical Farm) for Automation of Vertical Farming Operations

Case ID:
UA19-226
Invention:

Invention:

University of Arizona researchers have developed an original operational process that enables the automation of vertical farming by the use of ambulatory growing modules capable of planting, growing and harvesting under optimal environmental conditions to achieve maximum yield and nutritive value.

Background:

According to the United Nations, global population will increase from 2019's population of 7.6 billion to approximately 9.7 billion by 2050. United Nations projects that food production will need to increase by 70%. These goals are hard to reach by traditional farming methods as a push toward vertical indoor farming has increased crop production and decreased water usage by 95%. This research will further optimize the efficiency of vertical indoor farming production.

Applications:

  • Vertical farming operations

Advantages:

  • Increased efficiency
  • Increased crop yield
