Machining a Solution to Data Heavy Rangeland Research

Case ID:
UA19-166
Invention:

This invention is a machine learning-based method that reduces the time required to sort time-lapse photo sets, allowing large datasets of thousands of time-lapse photos to be processed in a matter of days rather than months.

Background:

The use of time-lapse camera trapping is an inexpensive, unobtrusive, and relatively real-time method to estimating various metrics of change and use on the landscape, but extracting this information has proven to be costly and time consuming.

Applications:

  • Time-lapse photoset sorting
  • Photo recognition
  • Surveillance

Advantages:

  • Inexpensive
  • Real-time image processing
