Cognitive Readiness Test (CRT)

Case ID:
UA18-238
Invention:

The multi-domain Cognitive Readiness Test (CRT) is a collection of computerized tasks that can rapidly assess cognitive status. The CRT provides the user with a rapid, portable, computerized assessment for determining acute cognitive status in a field environment. The CRT compares an individual's cognitive functioning at the time of testing to their previously tested baseline levels. Individuals can test at an optimal, marginal, or degraded status relative to their baseline.

Background:
The importance of the mind cannot be overstated, especially in careers in the military, law enforcement, and certain professional sport leagues where injuries can affect a person's mind. Leagues like the NFL and NHL, where there are many heavy hits, continue to struggle with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of concussions. The CRT looks to solve these problems by quickly and accurately determining cognitive status in the field. Saving time in dangerous environments can save the lives of the officers or soldiers and those they are protecting. In sports, a quick and accurate test will allow teams to effectively diagnose their players to avoid long-term damage.

Applications:

  • Military and law enforcement agencies
  • Sports
  • Workers in extreme environments

Advantages:

  • Rapid and portable
  • Allows user to make immediate return-to-duty decisions based on precise data (takes approximately 20 minutes)
  • Assesses based on a broad range of problems, including: psychological stress, exposure and injuries
