Converting Ordinary Structures to Smart Structures that Recognize Tap Patterns and Signatures Using Guided Acoustic Waves

Case ID:
UA17-071
Invention:

This invention is a device and software to recognize a tap pattern from the connected sensors to perform a specific function.

Background:
In the age of automation, the demand for increased security measures has greatly increased. This technology aims to provide a secure form of touch sensitive security. For example, users can tap on the door to access their vehicle. The finger tap generates acoustic waves and is captured by the sensors to determine the location. The door is unlocked after a certain pattern is tapped.

Applications:

  • Electronic security door locks
  • Smart homes
  • Repurposing of objects into smart devices
  • Automation

Advantages:

  • Applicable to a versatile range of industries
  • Requires only two sensors to determine the location of the tap
