Stem Cell Fusion Model of Carcinogenesis

Case ID:
UA06-013
Invention:

This technology is a method for modeling cancer cell migration, screening drugs for effects on tumor cell migration, and detecting the potential for tumor cell migration relating to the fusion of a bone marrow derived stem cell with a genetically altered cell.

Background:
Cancer has been difficult to treat because of tissue heterogeneity and gene instability. Recently, discoveries centered around stem cells and their potential effectiveness in treating cancer have opened up new opportunities. This technology intends to expand the current use of stem cells and cancer treatments.

Applications:

  • Cancer treatment
  • Drug screening
  • Inhibition of migrating cancer cells

Status: issued patents #8,158,126 and #8,758,755.
