Invention:
The Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) is the pharmaceutical industry gold standard of methods designed to help identify and quantify the effects of new drugs on the sexual function of participants in clinical trials. Since 1998, the ASEX Scale has been used by pharmaceutical companies and clinics worldwide in various clinical settings. Questionnaires appropriate for male or female patients are available.
“The ASEX has excellent internal consistency, scale reliability and strong test–retest reliability. ASEX appears to be useful in a range of clinical situations including patients with primary sexual dysfunction, specific psychiatric disorders, specific physical illnesses, and treatment emergent sexual dysfunction.”
— Hesham Y Elnazer, David S Baldwin, Faculty of Medicine, Clinical and Experimental Sciences (CNS and Psychiatry); Academic Department, University of Southampton, UK in “Structured review of the use of the Arizona sexual experiences scale in clinical settings.”
Background:
The development of new pharmaceutical agents such as antidepressants and blood pressure medications can be sidetracked when it is discovered that they affect one or more phases of sexual function. This scale offers a tool for companies to monitor patients during clinical trials to assess their impact on sexual function.
Advantages:
- Proven use by pharmaceutical companies and clinics worldwide
- Internationally recognized as a standard for determining sexual dysfunction
- Questionnaires appropriate for male or female patients are available
Applications:
- ASEX is the gold standard in clinical trials of new medications
Status:
ASEX copyright is available for non-exclusive licensing at a cost of $10,000 per 12 month period per protocol.
