Method For The Efficient Generation Of High Order Hermite Gaussian (HG) Modes In A Laser Cavity

Case ID:
UA19-127
Invention:

This technology is a method to generate higher order transverse laser modes. This method uses a combination of optical and/or electrical pumps and a VECSEL chip (vertical external cavity surface emitting lasers).

Background:

There are broad range of applications for higher-order lasers. However, due to low output power and/or large device size the current technologies are not practical. This new method will create tunable high-quality output power while still maintaining flexibility. By focusing on resolving these two concerns, this technology will have significant impact on various applications.

Applications:

  • Atom and microparticle trapping
  • Manipulation of biological cells
  • Light-atom interactions
  • Non-linear optics

Advantages:

  • Size
  • Reliability

Status: issued U.S. patent #11,431,150
